Know the Signs!  Be very careful with your bullies.  Two cases of heatstroke in San Diego caused the deaths of both dogs recently.

Here are the top 10 signs of heat exhaustion for dogs as stated by the Healing Springs Animal Hospital:

1.  Vigorous Panting

2.  Elevated Heart Rate

3.  Excess Salivation – Sometimes Thickened

4.  Vomiting

5.  Diarrhea

6.  Weakness

7.  Staggering

8.  Gasping

9.  Brick Red Gums, or Purple, or Blue

10.  Lying Down and Refusing to Get Up

Also, make sure you check rectal temperatures.  Normal = 101 to 102 degrees, Requires action = 104 degrees and Dire Emergency = 106 degrees.

In conclusion, take care of your dog, especially your english bulldog…
